CHINESE companies agreed to buy goods and services worth US$73.5 billion from foreign exhibitors at the world's largest import trade fair, an increase of 3.9 per cent on last year's dollar volume, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.

This, despite fewer exhibitors and visitors to the annual Shanghai trade fair because of stringent Covid prevention measures.
"The fifth CIIE was the first important international event [held by the Chinese government] after the 20th party congress," said Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau, a unit of the Ministry of Commerce which organised the event. "It displayed China's resolution in sharing growth opportunities with global businesses."
