| There must be a few red faces at Shipping Corp of India (SCI) after the internet demonstrated once again that news travels fast - even if it is wrong. An announcement made by SCI to the Bombay Stock Exchange that it had ordered a pair of medium-range (MR) tankers was quickly picked up by media and flashed around the world, with the information duly appearing in a number of broking reports circulated last weekend. We can now reveal that no such order was placed as SCI inadvertently put out the wrong announcement. SCI director Kutty Sekhar Nair says it had intended to notify the exchange that two MR tankers ordered at Jinling Shipyard in China had been delivered. However, junior officials accidentally circulated the orginal announcement of the orders made a couple of years ago. The stock exchange has been notified of the error but just in case you have not heard it, the news is: "No new orders from SCI." |
