LLOYD'S Maritime Academy has launched its Certificate in (key performance indicators) KPIs, offering a thorough introduction to performance management for the shipping industry directed by John Hunter, a performance management specialist in shipping and stevedoring companies.

Mr Hunter said that performance management is the bedrock to shipping companies who are under increasing pressure to re-think strategies and seek efficiencies as a result of both global trading conditions and the need for environmental monitoring and compliance.

"In order to survive in the present and build for the future, ship operators and managers must first understand the many factors that control a company's performance, including revenue sources, production levels, costs, customer service levels, employee training and succession management," he added.

Lloyd's Maritime Academy has delivered exceptional training in this area for some years through its renowned KPIs for Shipping seminars. This distance learning course, starting June 15, allows people to study strategy and performance management.

The Certificate in KPIs for Shipping combines proven performance management theory with concrete examples from the shipping industry, and shows how these can be implemented in a practical and effective way. It will show how to use business analysis to map business processes at a high level, how to identify those key processes that are critical to a company's performance and how to use the balanced scorecard and strategy maps to drive performance improvements.

Students simply download the programme materials and then have the flexibility to fit their study around their work, with constant tutorial support offered online. "For managers and strategists throughout the maritime sector, the unique blend of self-directed learning, expert support and online interaction will enable you to master performance management within your organisation, wherever you are in the world," added Mr Hunter in a statement.

Dr Merv Rowlinson, a respected consultant in maritime logistics and visiting lecturer at the Copenhagen Business School will join Mr Hunter in a consultant capacity.

The Certificate in KPIs for Shipping costs GBP1,999 +VAT (US$3,180) and students booking on or before April 9 qualify for a discounted fee of GBP1,899 +VAT. Applications are now accepted online at www.lloydsmaritimeacademy.com/kpi.
