| Chinese officials are investigating a possible chemical leak on a German-owned containership. The 8,152?teu Maersk Seville (built 2006), owned by Blue Star of Hamburg, was due to have further checks on Monday after being moved to a deep-water anchor off Shanghai on Sunday, the Shanghai Daily reported. No environmental damage had been detected, authorities said. Its last known port was north China's Tianjin. Port staff reported a pungent odour coming from the ship on Saturday. Two containers were registered as carrying dangerous goods, but it was the container next to these that was the source of the smell, according to Yangshan marine safety team spokesman Huang Yongchang. The box's contents were listed as "general cargo." |
