PETROCHINA is eager to sign additional supply agreements to import more LNG to China to meet rising demand, chairman Jiang Jiemin said today.

"We need to increase LNG resources", Jiang told reporters in Bejing after a parliamentary hearing.

The company's negotiations with Qatar on an agreement to buy an additional 2M tonnes of LNG per year have been hampered by disagreements over contract terms. "It's because of the uncertain global LNG prices," said Jiang, without disclosing any further details about the talks.

PetroChina struck an earlier deal with Qatargas in 2008 to buy 3M tonnes of LNG per year. It has also signed a 20-year contract with ExxonMobil to buy from Australia?s Gorgon LNG project from late 2014 or 2015.

The company is building two additional LNG import terminals on China's east coast to handle new supplies
