JAPANESE forwarding giant Nippon Express has become the latest to offer rail freight between China and Germany, reports Lloyd's Loading List.

The company first ran tests over the summer before launching a full service with a weekly round trips linking Wuhan and Chongqing with Duisburg and Hamburg in 15 to 18-day transits.
Each Nippon Express trainload takes 50 containers and has made a "satisfactory start in both directions", said the company.
"We are attracting FCL and LCL traffic - particularly for high-tech, electronics and automotive shipments," said Nippon Express sales manager Nedeljko Kucelj.
"While we launched the rail service as 'China-Europe", our customers were soon asking us whether the route could be extended to Japan, and we have found this feasible.
"Even with the transshipment of containers across China to ports such as Dalian and Qingdao, and loading on to vessels bound for Yokohama, customers can still save seven to 10 day's transit time when compared to ocean passage," he said.
Despite low ocean rates, the train is a reliable back-up for just-in-time production cycles, Mr Kucelj said.
