SHANGHAI is close to zero cases and factory production and operations resumed yesterday after a two-month city-wide lockdown against Covid outbreaks, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.

Following the progressive production resumption of manufacturers and logistics service providers, the daily container handling capacity of Shanghai port is around 107,500 TEU, returning to 95 per cent of normal level.
The daily container throughput for ports in Yangtze River delta region is 254,700 TEU, an increase of 1.2 per cent year on year.
Shanghai port is providing full support to stabilise the port operation amid and post-pandemic and will devote every effort to ensure Shanghai's position as the world's busiest container port, said Gu Jinshan, chairman of Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG).
To maintaining the 24-hour operations of Shanghai port during the lockdown over 20,000 staff were under the close-loop management starting from mid-March, meaning they both lived and worked at the port, effectively helping the port to run normally.
In the first four months, Shanghai port posted a container volume of 15.35 million TEU, an increase of 1.9 per cent, holding the position as the busiest container port worldwide.
